Discovery returns safely to Earth
Well, NASA's recent grounding of the shuttle fleet made my girlfriend's life hell this past week (oh, the trials of working at a science magazine), but it's good to see everyone is back safely.
I remember watching the very first shuttle launch ever. It was back in 1st grade (12 April 1981), and I was able to watch it on television only because I was in a gifted students program. The gifted classes took place in a little house on the school grounds, and the only two things I remember doing at those classes were watching the shuttle launch and trying to draw a Siamese cat by following the directions in the cleverly titled book "How to Draw Cats".
