1. I bought the first two trade paperback collections of Y: The Last Man based on recommendations from a number of people and promptly read them straight through. Great stuff. The first issue is simply outstanding. Yes, the BSG-esque flashback + work back to the present moment device may be a bit overused in the series, but the introduction to the series is rather gripping and the story is rather entertaining throughout these two collections. I look forward to picking up the next few collections in the coming weeks.
2. DownloadPunk is an online music store feature pay-for-download songs and albums by all manner of, well, punk bands. The full catalog of labels like Dischord, Lookout!, Epitaph, Gern Blandsten and SST (except for some bands like Husker Du whose work is likely tied up in later major label licensing deals) is up for sale, along with many, many other bands and labels. Songs are $0.79 to $0.99, and albums are generally $9.99. All the tracks are 192 kbps DRM-free mp3s. Suddenly I think I might be buying a whole lot of music, if only to start getting mp3 versions of all the stuff I bought on vinyl 10 to 15 years ago.
